Diyanet Islamic Research Institute hosted founding member and current President of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), Dr. Hisham Altalib, as the first speaker in its Oral History Conversations series on May 13 , 2017. 
Dr. Altalib arrived in the US in 1968 and has played a pivotal in the establishment and development of a number of Muslim institutions including the IIIT, Muslim Students Association, Islamic Society of North America, North American Islamic Trust among many other institutions. Dr. Altalib gave a talk addressing the broad historical trajectory of Islam in the US and he highlighted several key instances that shaped current dynamics that shape Muslim experience in America.
During the question and answer session Dr. Altalib provided significant personal insights and shed light on key moments in American Muslim collective story. Dr. Altalib is the author of three books and continues to actively guide IIIT’s intellectual and educational work.
